This Weekend's Adventure: Lysterfield Lake Loop, Lysterfield Park, Victoria

50 minutes from Melbourne CBD

Lysterfield Park is one of the best places near Melbourne to see kangaroos in the wild, and this relaxed loop takes us through grassy hills and open woodland with the shimmering lake never far from view. Starting from the Lysterfield Lake carpark and heading anti-clockwise, we wind through native bush and plantation forest, keeping an eye out for the big mobs of eastern grey kangaroos and wallabies that call this place home, along with the odd echidna and over 140 species of birds.

This is our most accessible hike, graded easy, so it's a great one if you're building confidence, easing back in, or just want a gentle day on the trail in good company. We climb to the high point for lunch and a proper break, taking in views back over the lake and out towards the city, before looping back to the start. Wide, well-formed tracks throughout, with a couple of gentle hills to keep the legs honest.

  • When: Sunday, 11th October
  • Distance: 14km
  • Elevation: 430m +/-
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Terrain: Dirt trails, gravel roads, some off-road tracks, gentle hills
  • Highlight: Big mobs of wild kangaroos and lake views from the high point

Adventure Shouldn't Be Complicated.

We know life gets full. Between work, family, and the rest of it, getting out into nature regularly - the kind of nature that actually moves you - rarely makes it to the top of the list.

That's why we built this. One day a month, we handle everything. You just show up.

Move your body. Clear your mind. Earn your views.

Everything You Need. Nothing You Don't.

๐Ÿš Return Transport from Port Melbourne Door-to-trail and back again - no need to navigate, park, or coordinate. We pick you up and bring you home.

๐Ÿงญ Expert Wilderness Guide. Led by a wilderness first aid-qualified guide with deep knowledge of the terrain, and how to get the best out of your day - whatever your fitness level.

๐Ÿฅ— Healthy Lunch, Snacks & Electrolytes Fresh fruit, energy bars, a proper trail lunch, and electrolytes to keep you fuelled all day. Thoughtfully prepared. No thinking required.

๐ŸŒฟ Nature Education Along the Way. This isn't just a walk. We weave in learning throughout the day - reading the landscape, understanding the ecosystem, building skills that make you a more confident, capable adventurer.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Small Group - Maximum 11 People. No crowds. No chaos. Just a tight-knit group moving together through genuinely beautiful country.

โœ… Nothing to Organise. Just Show Up. Book your spot, complete your waiver, and arrive ready to move. No logistics, no planning, no gear you don't already own. We handle the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the pace isn't right for me?

Our guides are experienced at reading a group. The route has flexibility built in - we can adapt pace, modify the return route, and where needed, accommodate different ability levels within the group. You won't be left behind, and you won't be held back.

How do you manage safety of the participants?

Your guide carries a full first aid kit and emergency communication device, and holds wilderness first aid certification. If you carry specific medications or have medical considerations, please let us know when booking and bring what you need on the day.

In the interest of participant safety and enjoyment, the lead guide may make adjustments to the planned route or location prior to the hike in response to adverse weather, trail conditions, or other environmental factors. Any such changes will be communicated to participants in advance where possible and will always reflect the best available option for the day.
