What our Day Hikes are About

Our day hikes are a chance to get out of the city and into some of Victoria's best wild nature for a solid day on the trail, fully guided and completely sorted.

You don't need to plan a thing. We handle the route, the transport from Melbourne, the safety, and the logistics. You bring yourself, the right clothing, and a willingness to put in a good day's effort.

How it works

  1. Pick a hike and book your spot online.
  2. Meet us in Port Melbourne on the morning, and we'll take care of the rest.

Who they're for

Our hikes are graded Medium to Difficult, so a reasonable level of fitness helps. You don't need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable on your feet for a full day and up for some hills. If you're training towards something bigger, or just want a proper day out with good people in good country, you'll fit right in.

Everything You Need. Nothing You Don't.

🚐 Return Transport from Port Melbourne Door-to-trail and back again - no need to navigate, park, or coordinate. We pick you up and bring you home.

🧭 Expert Wilderness Guide. Led by a wilderness first aid-qualified guide with deep knowledge of the terrain, and how to get the best out of your day - whatever your fitness level.

🥗 Healthy Lunch, Snacks & Electrolytes Fresh fruit, energy bars, a proper trail lunch, and electrolytes to keep you fuelled all day. Thoughtfully prepared. No thinking required.

🌿 Nature Education Along the Way. This isn't just a walk. We weave in learning throughout the day - reading the landscape, understanding the ecosystem, building skills that make you a more confident, capable adventurer.

👥 Small Group - Maximum 11 People. No crowds. No chaos. Just a tight-knit group moving together through genuinely beautiful country.

Nothing to Organise. Just Show Up. Book your spot, complete your waiver, and arrive ready to move. No logistics, no planning, no gear you don't already own. We handle the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included?

Expert guiding for the full day, return transport from Port Melbourne, all the route planning and safety, lunch, snacks and electrolytes. You bring your own clothing, day pack and water.

How fit do I need to be?

Our hikes are graded Medium to Difficult. You should be comfortable walking for a full day over varied terrain with some steep climbs. If you're unsure whether a particular hike suits you, get in touch before booking.

What do I need to bring?

Each hike's landing page has a full "what to wear and bring" list. The essentials are sturdy footwear, weather appropriate layers and plenty of water.

Where and what time do we meet?

We meet in Port Melbourne at around 7.30am and travel to the trailhead together. Exact timing is on each hike's landing page and in your confirmation email.

What if the pace isn't right for me?

Our guides are experienced at reading a group. The route has flexibility built in - we can adapt pace, modify the return route, and where needed, accommodate different ability levels within the group. You won't be left behind, and you won't be held back.

How do you manage safety of the participants?

Your guide carries a full first aid kit and emergency communication device, and holds wilderness first aid certification. If you carry specific medications or have medical considerations, please let us know when booking and bring what you need on the day.

In the interest of participant safety and enjoyment, the lead guide may make adjustments to the planned route or location prior to the hike in response to adverse weather, trail conditions, or other environmental factors. Any such changes will be communicated to participants in advance where possible and will always reflect the best available option for the day.

  1. All bookings for Mountain Tribe day hikes are final. No refund will be issued after a booking is confirmed, regardless of the reason for cancellation.

  2. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your booking to another person, or transfer your booking to a future Mountain Tribe day hike. Transfers must be requested by email to ross@mountaintribe.com.au.

  3. No transfers will be processed within 72 hours of the scheduled activity start time. After this point, the booking is forfeited.

  4. If Mountain Tribe cancels a day hike for any reason (including weather-related go/no-go decisions), participants will be offered a transfer to a future hike of equivalent value, or a full refund.
